2023 KYHS Essay Contest and Speech Contest

<KYHS Essay Contest>

This annual essay contest is organized in an effort to promote Korean youths’ leadership, service, and scholarship. It also aims to influence society to learn from the youths and to think about how to change the world.

Topic/Subject: There are a lot of leadership skills. Among courage, problem-solving, time management, and creativity, what is the most important leadership skill?

How to Submit:
1. Essays may be submitted by a middle school and high school student. (or the same age) The contest welcomes not only KYHS members but all Korean youths. (Grade 7-12, as of fall 2023) At least one parent must be Korean (regardless of legal citizenship or residency)
2. Essays must be 600 words or less in English, excluding the essay title and cover page. Essays must be typed. 
3. Only one entry per person is accepted. Entries should be submitted to    https://forms.gle/hQGWvPxwG9PkjBDK9

4. Entries must include a cover page indicating: (1) your name (2) date of birth (3) gender (4) nationality (5) address (6) e-mail (7) phone number (8) school name and grade (9) your essay title (10) word count.
* Entries missing any of the above information will not be considered. *
5. Essays must be original and unpublished. Plagiarized entries will be rejected.
6. Essays must be written by one person. Co-authored essays are not accepted.
7. Copyright of the essays entered will be assigned to the organizer (KYHS).

DEADLINE: 11:59 pm KST on Saturday, July 10, 2023.

<KYHS Speech Contest>

The KYHS Speech Contest provides an opportunity for young speakers to improve their speaking abilities and strategically express their viewpoints on particular topics.

Topic/Subject
What are you thankful for in your daily life?

How to Submit
• Must be between 7th~12th grade(as of fall 2023) and an English speaker
• At least one parent must be Korean (regardless of legal citizenship or residency)
• The contest welcomes not only KYHS members but all Korean youths.
• Submit your video (MP4 format ONLY) to the completed form

Content-Length
• Middle school division (7th and 8th): up to 3 minutes
• High school division (9th, 10th, 11th): up to 4 minutes

Content Format
• Video Format: MP4, Landscape Mode
• Video Resolution: 1080P (Full HD)
• If any images, music, or scenes are borrowed from other works, sources must be credited at the end of the video.

Evaluation Criteria
• Content and originality 40%
• Organization 30%
• Delivery (fluency, pronunciation, gestures) 20%
• Accuracy of grammar and vocabulary 10%

Deadline  11:59 pm KST on Saturday, July 10, 2023.
