2025 KYHS Music Competition – Online Results (North America, South Ame…

We deeply appreciate all participants and families for joining the 2025 Korean Youth Honor Society (KYHS) Music Competition – Online Division.

The Washington, D.C. competition, originally announced as an in-person event for September 20, 2025, was transitioned to an online format following the announcement of its schedule. In light of this change, and to honor our commitment to participants, entries from Washington, D.C. and from North America, South America, and Europe were adjudicated in separate divisions. The final results are as follows.

 

 

North America, South America & Europe Division

Jury Bios

Lucille Chung – Piano & Chamber Music
 Montréal-born pianist Lucille Chung debuted at age 10 with the Montréal Symphony and has performed with over 70 major orchestras worldwide. A distinguished graduate of both the Curtis Institute of Music and The Juilliard School, she is praised for her “stylish and refined” playing (Gramophone) and co-directs the Joaquín Achúcarro Foundation in Dallas.

 

Donald Dal Maso – Violin, Viola & Chamber Music
 A Curtis Institute alumnus, Donald Dal Maso’s career includes nearly thirty years with the New York City Opera Orchestra and leadership of the L’ARCHET Concert Group. He also serves as a consultant for arts-in-education initiatives.

 

Steven D. Hartman – Winds & Brass
 Principal Clarinet of the New York City Ballet Orchestra since 1987, Steven D. Hartman has held principal positions with the NYC Opera Orchestra and the New York Scandia Symphony. A Juilliard graduate, he regularly appears with leading Lincoln Center ensembles and is a respected clinician.

 

Hyungjin Son – Voice (Baritone)
 Baritone Hyungjin Son is lauded for his commanding stage presence and artistry. His training includes the San Francisco Opera’s Merola Program and the LA Opera Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist Program, with notable performances at Boston Symphony Hall, LA Opera, and more. Mr. Son is a recipient of the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition and holds degrees from Seoul National University and the New England Conservatory.

 Details regarding the Winner’s Concert at Carnegie Hall in New York and the World Premiere series will be released separately.

Once again, we congratulate all participants for their dedication and exceptional performances.
